The Symposium organizers will have people at Noi Bai International Airport to help arriving participants; but the following information may be useful.
It costs about $20US by taxi to travel from the airport to downtown Hanoi. To avoid being overcharged, participants are strongly advised to get in a cab only at the taxi stand. Please print out your hotel name to show the taxi driver.
It is highly advised that participants have some Vietnamese currency or small US-dollar bills forehand to pay for the trip. At present, one US dollar is 21,250VND.
For your safety please inform Symposium Organizers about your arriving itinerary in advance.
Traffic in Hanoi is chaotic and dangerous; participants are strictly advised that they be cautious when crossing the street.
Room rates in Hanoi are relatively reasonable, ranging from $25US (guesthouse) up to $75US (three-star hotel) for double occupancy. There are a number of hotels and guesthouses within walking distance to the Institute of Geological Sciences.
Participants are advised to contact the secretaries for accommodation arrangement
Hanoi in November is rather pleasant with temperatures between 18 and 25°C, but in the northwestern Vietnam, where the field excursion is going to be, may be cold (10 to 20°C) with occasionally light rain. Participants are advised to bring along a light sweater and jacket. For field excursion participants please have a pair of hiking shoes, an umbrella, and field work clothes ready.
